South West Seafood Sustainability Hub
Summary
The South West Seafood Sustainability Hub is a multi-stakeholder initiative that with Project UK, aims to support improvements in sustainable fishing practices in the South West.
The Hub exists for improving and delivering validated sustainable fisheries i.e. validation through MSC certification around the South West of England. Its core purpose is to provide a structured organisational framework and community, for delivering fishery improvement by facilitating collaboration across the seafood industry, in a transparent and credible pre-competitive way.
The Hub will focus on delivering validated sustainable fisheries by progressing the past South West Fisheries Improvement Projects (FIPs) from Round 1 of Project UK (i.e. crab and lobster, monkfish, and Channel scallops) as well as leading on the delivery of a South West Mixed Fishery FIP, via the MSC Improvement Program and as part of Round 3 of Project UK. By building on the momentum of these previous initiatives, the Hub aims to move key regional fisheries toward long-term sustainability and securing MSC certification.
